Smokey Bear said “Only YOU can prevent forest fires”

  1. At What If, doing all we can to reduce potential risk of fire means:

NO OPEN FLAMES at all – that means no fire spinning, no propane fire pits, no candles, no heaters with a flame, no charcoal BBQs/habachis, and no cigarettes of *any* kind outside of the designated smoking area shown on the map.

Personal enclosed (flameless) heaters and camp stoves must be CSA-certified (unmodified) and must be attended to at ALL times while in use.

For general fire safety around the site:
-Anything touched with a lighter, make sure to snuff out in water to be sure it’s not smoldering
-Be cautious of any camp decor with prisms or reflective facets – the intense summer sun can focus the reflections onto the VERY dry foliage around us – think how you can angle a magnifying glass to burn into wood!
-Fire extinguishers are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED (Please note there are different types of extinguishers for different types of fires!)
-We also suggest that you keep a bucket full of river water at your camp in case of grass fires.

If you encounter a fire at What If, please try to put it out if it’s safe to do so!

Shout out “Fire” so that others nearby are aware and can help you put it out!

If you’re not able to extinguish it, call 911.

Ask someone else to go contact Rangers or anyone with a radio so that Production knows what is happening and can help direct emergency services.

Even if the fire was small and has been put out – please tell the Rangers ASAP.

Wildfires can impact road access and highways – they’ve even impacted our drive to site in the last couple years!
Know before you go, check DriveBC (https://www.drivebc.ca/) and current provincial evacuation advisories from Emergency Info BC (https://www.emergencyinfobc.gov.bc.ca/)
